Years ago, my old mate, Fred Courtier, sent me some original photographs of himself and Jack Legg, back in the day. Fred was involved in all manner of stuff for the Forestry Commission. It was he who field trialed the original Fenn Mk 1 Vermin trap. He was later involved in running day courses on squirrel control methods. I remember him telling me;
" The trouble with those courses was ye'd get a lot of Game Keepers. And ye couldn't stop them talking. They work alone all the time, see? Speaking to no one all day. So, when ye get a load of them together, they won't shut up! " LOL!
Anyway, between the pair of them, Fred and Jack have probably forgotten more about grey squirrel control than most of us would ever learn. Legends.
And, I would point out; Being an old school gentleman of the pre face ache age, Fred specifically requested that I seek permission from the Forestry Commission before doing anything with these photo's. I'm happy to assure all that I have done. And I have been kindly granted that permission, to show them to ye here
Here they are then. Some candid snap shots of how it was. The notes are Freds.
